San Ramon Aqua Bears Mission

The mission of the San Ramon Aqua Bears swim team is to provide a positive, fun swim experience that promotes good sportsmanship, self-esteem and personal victories in a family atmosphere.

San Ramon Aqua Bears History

During the summer of 1970, the first group of swimmers raced for the San Ramon Swim Team. Since then we have grown to our present team of approximately 150 swimmers. An all-volunteer organization, Aqua Bear families have developed a tradition of team and community spirit, providing an outlet for parents and children alike.

Membership Requirements

Anyone may join the Aqua Bears swim team, provided there is space available in the appropriate age group(s). The family must have a San Ramon Golf Club swim membership and have paid both their club and team dues. In addition, the swimmers and parents must fulfill the obligations described in the Swimmer and Parent Responsibilities sections of the Splash Flash.

There are no "try-outs" for the team. However for safety reasons, we have set forth the following guidelines. To be an Aqua Bear, a swimmer must be confident in at least two different strokes. They must be able to swim one lap of each of these strokes unassisted. We also have an Aqua Cub program which is reserved for younger siblings of Aqua Bear Swimmers. In order to be an Aqua Cub, a swimmer must be comfortable in the water. They must be able to hold onto the wall unassisted while they wait their turn, they must be able to push off of the wall and torpedo 5 yards to a coach, and they must be able to hold onto a kickboard and kick the length of the pool.  6 and unders will be evaluated by the coach to determine in which group they will participate.
